“For
God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, Thank you for your prayers! Many of you have been praying and it has been obvious in the peace that God has given in this whole process. The meeting that was scheduled for Thursday afternoon had to be postponed until Friday afternoon. Bro. Rodrigo (the real estate agent) and I met with the owner of “the Dome” yesterday. Here is a summary of the meeting: · We presented an offer of just over $150,000.00. · The owner was thinking $250,000.00 - firm. · We have not had the property officially appraised, but the value is close to $225,000.00, maybe more, so his asking price is not unreasonable. · Our offer was based on “our ability” to pay monthly payments at Guatemalan bank interest rates (11% to 14%). · The offer was rejected (obviously), but the negotiations are still open. The owner was very cordial and helpful. He will be talking to the presidents of two banks here (who are his personal friends) to present our case and see what other options they might be able to offer. Although this would appear to be negative, it merely shows us the frailty of the human effort in doing God’s work. In the above mentioned passage, the word “perplexed” is the Greek work aporeo, which literally means “without resources” and the word “despair” is the Greek word exaporeomai, which means “to be utterly at a loss; to renounce all hope”. That pretty much describes our outlook. We are without resources (financially speaking), but not “utterly at a loss”, because we feel that the Lord is in this. After sharing this news with my Dad (a pastor in Texas), my pastor, and several other brethren, all still had a very positive attitude regarding our proposed project. My pastor said, “God’s going to do something”. We believe that! The owner was very helpful and hopeful that we can arrive at a deal. He has given us until June 30th to work out something financially.
We are convinced that GOD is in this. We are “perplexed” as to how HE is going to work, however, “not in despair” but confident that HE is!
